Dr. (Smt.) Roopa Salwan
Dr. Roopa Salwan has done MBBS in 1986 and MD (Medicine) in 1993 from Maulana Azad Medical College and LNJPN Hospital, New Delhi . She has received Gold Medal for being the best student in Surgery (1986 ) and Best Resident in Clinical work (1992) . She completed her DM in Cardiology from GB Pant Hospital; Delhi University in 1996. Dr.Salwan has been active in the field of Interventional Cardiology for the last four decades. She has vast experience of Interventional Cardiology at Escorts Heart Institute and Research Centre where she was working in the capacity of Consultant- Interventional Cardiologist for 7 years. She has been a founder member of the Cardiology team to set up Max Heart and Vascular Institute in 2004 . The Max MI Network was subsequently set up and Max is the only Healthcare in the country with a well defined Acute MI care processes in addition to standardized Cath Lab practices. LUMEN Global has recognized Max Healthcare as an Institution of excellence for the treatment of Heart Attacks. A Scientific paper “ MIDAS “ has been published in Journal of Society of Cardiovascular Interventions in 2026 as a landmark study showing implementation of standardized protocols to deliver world class results in patients with acute heart attack, in India.
Dr.Salwan has special interest in Cardiovascular disease in women, Structural Heart Disease (Valve Interventions), Acute MI Interventions, Complex High risk Coronary Interventions ( Rotablation, Intravascular Lithotripsy, Impella supported interventions ) Peripheral vascular disease and Thrombotic diseases, Cardiac Critical care. In 2018, she was the first lady cardiologist in the country to perform TAVI.
She delivered the prestigious “ Padmavati Oration “ at the 18 th Women Cardiac Care Conference 2026. WCC is one of the largest and most influential Interventional Cardiology conferences for women in the Asia Pacific region. The oration has been instituted to honor excellence, leadership and pioneering contributions in Cardiovascular Medicine in Women. In recognition of her exceptional contribution to Cardiology, she was honored with the prestigious ‘DEVI ‘ award by the Sunday Standard in 2014.
She is passionate about quality and ethics and patient outcome in medical practice . In 2012 ,she completed an Executive Education course at HBS – Managing Health Care Delivery.
