Km. Janak Juneja, I.A.S. (Retd.)
Km. Janak Juneja, an esteemed alumna of Salwan Girls Sr. Sec. School, embodies the ethos of ‘Service Before Self’, influenced by the principles of the Founder Pt. Girdhari Lal Salwan. Born in Peshawar in 1940, she migrated to India post-partition and pursued higher education, graduating with honours in Mathematics from SGTB Khalsa College and later obtaining an MA from Ramjas College, Delhi University. Joining the Delhi Andaman Nicobar Civil Service in 1963, she showcased her commitment to public service, notably in tribal areas.
Km. Juneja continued her education, including studies in LL.B. and a Master’s in Economics from the UK. Even after retiring from the IAS in 1998, her dedication to public welfare persisted. In recognition of her enduring dedication to education and women’s empowerment, Salwan Education Trust honoured her by naming the activity centre at Salwan Girls Sr. Sec. School, Rajendra Nagar, as Janak Juneja Hall. She continues to be associated with NGOs like SOSVA Mother highlighting her commitment to uplifting marginalised communities through education and welfare services. Km. Juneja’s life epitomises her lifelong dedication to public welfare and education.
