Salwan Public School, Mayur Vihar

CBSE’s First Stem DLDS Workshop

Smt. Ahanthem Romita Devi (TGT Science) and Mr. Shubham Garg (TGT Computer Science) from Salwan Public School, Mayur Vihar attended CBSE’s first STEM DLDs workshop in collaboration with the Centre of Excellence on 05 July 2025 at Mount Abu Public School, Rohini. Out of several entries, only 16 schools were shortlisted to present case papers on innovative STEM practices and Salwan Public School was among them. Their presentation showcased the school’s efforts to integrate STEM into everyday learning and promote scientific inquiry. Only two schools will be selected for the upcoming National Round, based on presentation quality and impact.

CPD Workshop-Promoting Mental Health and Wellness Among Students

A CPD workshop on ‘Promoting Mental Health and Wellness among Students’ was held on 26 July 2025 in collaboration with CBSE. Led by Capt Richa Sharma Katyal, Principal, SPS MV, and Smt Sutekshna Sharma, TGT Biology, Sardar Patel Vidyalaya, the interactive sessions focused on emotional well-being, beginning with a calming mindfulness exercise to set the tone.

Session 1: Mental Well-Being and Health by Smt. Sutekshna Sharma
The session fostered self-awareness through creative expression and reflection, emphasized mental health’s importance, introduced key psychological theories, and shared practical strategies like empathy, active listening, and open communication for student support.

Session 2: Early identification- Signs and Alarm Signals by Capt Richa Sharma Katyal (Retd)
The session emphasised teachers’ crucial role in supporting student mental health, addressing issues like depression, anxiety, substance abuse, eating disorders, and abuse. Real-life cases illustrated challenges and coping strategies. It also highlighted the importance of teacher well-being and shared practical methods to manage stress and promote holistic wellness.

Session 3: Importance of Support Services in Promoting the Mental Health by Smt. Sutekshna Sharma
The session began with a reflective activity on pleasant emotions, evoking smiles and positivity. Videos on emotional regulation and calmness followed. The concept of the happiness index was introduced, exploring causes of unhappiness. The session concluded with insights on building support systems through positive influences, healthy distractions, and strong social connections.

Session 4: Creating A School-Based Mental Health Service Programme by Participants and Presentation by Capt Richa Sharma Katyal (Retd)
The session focused on building a school-wide mental support system, highlighting intervention models and embedding well-being into the curriculum. An engaging activity prompted reflection on emotional safety needs. Discussions emphasised targeted support, pupil participation, and staff well-being. The day ended with shared takeaways, reinforcing a collective commitment to mental wellness.

Keynote Speaker at Bett Asia

Smt. Sonia Wadhwa, Head of Salwan Junior School and Additional Director – IT at Salwan Education Trust, will be one of the distinguished keynote speakers at the upcoming Bett Asia event. She will speak on the compelling topic ‘From Play to Purpose: Using Gen AI to Cultivate 21st-Century Skills in Early Learner’s. With her vast experience in early childhood education and a proven track record of integrating AI tools into the learning process, Smt. Wadhwa brings a deep understanding of how technology can support the development of essential life skills such as creativity, communication, critical thinking, and empathy.
Her session will explore how generative AI, when used appropriately and playfully, can enrich the learning experience of young children and prepare them for a future shaped by digital innovation. By transforming playful engagement into purposeful learning, she will offer educators a visionary framework along with practical, hands-on strategies they can apply in real classrooms.
As AI becomes increasingly embedded in children’s lives, her insights will provide guidance on safe, age-appropriate, and effective use of Gen AI in early education. Ms. Wadhwa will also serve as a member of the judging panel for the prestigious Bett Asia Awards, further recogniSing her leadership and expertise in the field of education.

Recognition as CBSE Resource Person

Ms. Surmeet Kaur, a teacher at Salwan Junior School Narayana Vihar, was appointed as a resource person by CBSE to conduct capacity building programs for teachers across affiliated schools. She successfully led her first session on ‘Gender Sensitivity in Schools’ at Kerala School on June 27, 2025.

Key Highlights:
– Addressing Teachers: Ms. Surmeet Kaur shared her expertise with a gathering of 60 teachers, promoting a deeper understanding of gender sensitivity in educational settings.
– Mental Health and Well-being: The workshop included interactive activities focused on mental health and well-being, empowering teachers to prioritize their emotional balance and resilience.
– Capacity Building: This program aimed to equip teachers with innovative pedagogical strategies and holistic teaching approaches, aligning with CBSE’s goals for educational excellence.

Dr. Shilpa Raghuvanshi Chauhan’s Presentation at District-Level Stem Deliberation Day

Dr. Shilpa Raghuvanshi Chauhan, PGT Biotechnology, at Salwan Public School, Rajender Nagar was shortlisted to present her case paper at the District-Level STEM Deliberation Day (STEM-DLD) held on 25 July, 2025, at Lilawati Vidya Mandir Sr. Sec. School, Delhi. The event was organised in collaboration with the CBSE Centre of Excellence (COE West) to highlight innovative practices in STEM education.
Dr. Chauhan’s case study, titled ‘Advancing Practical Learning, Innovation, and Market Readiness Through Industry-Integrated STEM Education: A Case Study at the School Level’, showcased her commitment to embedding real-world relevance and research-driven strategies in classroom pedagogy.
Her impactful presentation received high appreciation from the jury for its clarity, innovation, and practical application, and was widely acknowledged as one of the most insightful and effective contributions of the day.
