Workshop on e-waste

A workshop on e-waste for Class VII students was conducted by Namo E-Waste organisation in SPS MV on Friday 07 February, 2025. Students learnt about e-waste generation, its environmental impact, and the health hazards associated with improper disposal. The session emphasised the urgent need for responsible e-waste management. Following the workshop, a poster-making competition was held, where the top three entries were awarded on the spot, encouraging creativity and awareness. The event successfully educated students on sustainable practices and the importance of reducing electronic waste for a healthier planet. 

The Dastaan-e-Kathak 2025

On Tuesday, 04 February 2025, four faculty members of SPS MV- Smt. Peu Lahiri, PRT Dance along with Smt. Sarita, PRT Hindi, Smt. Zeba Danish, TGT Geography and Smt. Neha Kohli, TGT French, had the privilege of attending the Dastaan-e-Kathak 2025 event- ‘Dance of Silence’, an innovative exploration of movement beyond music, curated by Shivani Varma, a disciple of Pt. Birju Maharaj and a renowned Kathak Dancer. It challenges traditional perceptions of Kathak by removing its rhythmic foundation, allowing dancers to find their expression through silence. The performance highlighted the raw elements of dance—breath, footwork and body movement—without the guidance of beats or melodies. 

The event featured contributions from various artists, including film and photography by Marie Baker-Lee, visual art by Sonali Batra, and musical compositions by Arshad Khan and Sina Fakhroddin Ghaffari. Through dance, music, and visual art, ‘Dance of Silence’ offered a unique sensory experience, redefining Kathak for modern audiences. 

School Education Conference, British Council

attending the School Education Conference on Tuesday 04 February, 2025, organised by the British Council in collaboration with the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE). The conference aimed to promote multilingual pedagogy in school education across India, bringing together over 200 representatives from schools, educational institutions, and policymaking bodies. 

The conference was inaugurated by Sh. Sanjay Kumar, IAS, Secretary, Department of School Education and Literacy, and Sh. Rahul Singh, IAS, Chairperson, CBSE. The conference featured insightful plenary sessions and panel discussions, focusing on best practices in multilingual education and pedagogy, in alignment with NEP 2020. It also explored innovative approaches to school education, with a special emphasis on the role of multilingualism in enhancing learning outcomes. Beyond discussions, the event served as a collaborative platform for educators and policymakers to exchange ideas and drive forward meaningful educational reforms, reinforcing the vision of an inclusive and dynamic learning ecosystem. 

Friendly Volleyball Match at American Embassy School

On Saturday, 01 February 2025, the American Embassy School had invited SPS MV Volleyball Girls Team for a friendly match. Two teams had participated in the match:  Mini team and the Junior team. It was a new experience for the children and they played with great excitement, having performed exceptionally well.  

Dev Swaranjali 2025

Gyan Bharati School, in collaboration with the School Alumni Network, organised Dev Swaranjali 2025, a Divine Classical Music and Dance Festival on Thursday, 06 February 2025. The event featured renowned artists, including Pt. Hari Prasad Chaurasia (Flute Maestro), Ustad Rashid Mustafa Thirakwa (Tabla Maestro), Pranshu Chatur Lal (Percussionist), and Geeta Chandran (Bharatanatyam dancer). Mr. Manish Dua and Ms. Reshma Das from SPS MV attended the program which was a truly enriching experience. Witnessing such legendary artists perform live is inspiring and a valuable learning opportunity. 

CBSE Workshop on Stress Management

On Wednesday, 12 February 2025, three faculty members of SPS MV- Shri Souherdyo Das HoD Art, Smt. Fouzia Khan, PRT Maths along with Smt. Peu Lahiri Roy, PRT Dance had the opportunity to attend the CBP Workshop on ‘Stress Management’.  This workshop marked a significant step towards enhancing the well-being and productivity of teachers. By equipping educators with effective stress management strategies, the workshop contributed to creating a healthier and more supportive educational environment. This initiative not only benefitted the teachers but also positively impacted the students, who thrive under the guidance of motivated and well-balanced educators.

Annual Presentation: ‘Spring Symphony – A Blooming in Harmony’

SPS MV hosted its Annual Presentation, ‘Spring Symphony – A Blooming in Harmony,’ on Thursday, 20 February 2025, featuring students from Kindergarten to Class II. The event began with the lighting of the lamp, a choir performance, and Saraswati Vandana. Capt Richa Sharma Katyal (Retd), Principal, emphasised the school’s commitment to holistic education. The highlight was the musical play, ‘Spring Symphony,’ which focused on environmental conservation, highlighting Climate Action (SDG 13) and Life on Land (SDG 15). Smt. Sheetal Kapoor, Headmistress, expressed gratitude for everyone’s contributions, and the event ended with a celebration of young talent. 

Alumni Meet – MILAP 2.0

Milap 2.0, the eagerly awaited alumni meet of SPS MV held on Saturday, 22 February 2025, was a heartwarming celebration of memories, friendships, and shared experiences, bringing together around 80 alumni and faculty members. The event commenced with the ceremonial lighting of the lamp, invoking the blessings of Goddess Saraswati, and setting the tone for a day filled with nostalgia. The hosts extended a warm welcome to the alumni, embracing them amidst the esteemed presence of Capt Richa Sharma Katyal, Principal, Maj Gen Ajay Khandpur, Director, Smt. Bhawna Puri, Vice Principal and Smt. Sheetal Kapoor, Headmistress. Their presence reinforced the deep-rooted bond shared between the institution and its former students. Highlights included reflections from Sh. Ashish Kumar (President of SPOSA) who stressed upon the importance of strengthening the SPOSA community by sharing of one’s expertise, and an open mic where alumni expressed fond memories. The event concluded with a valedictory address by an alumnus leaving everyone with cherished memories and a strengthened bond with their alma mater. Milap 2.0 was an unforgettable experience, rekindling old friendships and strengthening the bond between alumni and the school. The event truly captured the spirit of Salwan – a place where memories are made and cherished forever.  

Achievement: INTACH Filmit India

SPS MV excelled at INTACH FILMIT India 2024, a multicultural filmmaking initiative held at CD Deshmukh Hall, India International Centre, Delhi, on 4th February 2025. 

Middle School students enthusiastically participated, producing four films, with two winning top awards: 

Award-Winning Films: 

  1. Hastsal – Ek Chota Minar Badi Kahani (Best Narration) – Ritwik Dhawan of class IX, and Akshit Gupta of class VIII. 
  2. Tales of the Timeless Epic (Best Storyline) – Aarav Dhingra and Shamailah Danish, both of class VIII 

These awards highlight the students’ creativity and storytelling skills, reflecting the school’s commitment to cultural education through filmmaking. 

A Visit to National Crafts Museum

SPS MV organised a visit to the National Crafts Museum, Pragati Maidan for the students of class VI  on Tuesday, 04 February 2025. It was an enriching experience, offering a glimpse into India’s rich artistic heritage. Students explored exquisite handicrafts, traditional textiles, and intricate woodwork, gaining a deeper appreciation for the skills of artisans from across the country.
